Step Well, Amer Fort
Via Tolila
$275.00

Jaipur, India.

Built during the 16th-century reign of Maharaja Jai Singh, these striking symmetrical staircases are a combination of Indian engineering and architectural beauty. Created as a way of collecting the monsoon rains and preserving water for the drier months, the criss crossing stair wells are designed so that people could reach water at any level as the pool rises and falls. This made the step well a central part of the community, used as a water source for all and a meeting spot for the women; a place to chit-chat.

Limited edition print of 50.
